Made specifically for drag race enthusiasts, a unique 427 cubic inch variation of the 409 motor was installed in the 1963 Z11 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe option. The car had light a weight aluminum components as well as a cowl-induction air intake system.

The 427 had a high-rise two piece aluminum intake manifold and twin Carter AFB carbs which ended up putting out around 430 horse power.

Introduced in 1970 the Chevy big block 454 actually had 454.2 cubic inches. The LS5 version of the engine which came in the Corvette put out about 390 horses which is just ten horsepower less than the base C6 Corvettes of today. The engine also came in a much more powerful LS6 version that put out somewhere in the neighborhood of 450 horsepower which by today's standards is reaching Corvette Z06 horsepower levels.

In the early 70's like all the other General Motor's engines, the 454 started declining in power with the 1971 LS5 just producing 365 horsepower.

Depending on the model, the 454 came with both rectangular port heads that had 2.19 inch intake valves and 1.88 inch exhaust valves or oval port heads which where fitted with the smaller 2.06 intake valves and 1.72 inch exhaust valves.

The 396 was launched in the 65' Chevelle and Corvette. It put out a beastly 375 horses and a whopping 415 foot pounds of torque. The engine could be easily operated in the upper six thousand RPM range thanks it's beefy four bolt mains.
